Park Chan-dae: "Companies Must Grow in a Fair Environment... I Will Accelerate Institutional Reforms as Party Leader"

Emphasizing Economic Expertise and Teamwork with Lee Jaemyung to Win Public Support
Pledges Political Reform Including National Recall System

Park Chan-dae, a lawmaker running for the position of party leader in the Democratic Party's 8·2 National Convention, addressed global business leaders on July 15, saying, "Companies operating in Korea must be able to grow in a fair and consistent regulatory environment." He added, "Under Park Chan-dae's Democratic Party, the party and government will move as one, running together at the 'Korean 8282 speed.'

Amid recent efforts by the party and government to accelerate various legislative initiatives on corporate governance and regulations, Park emphasized his past experience working closely with President Lee Jaemyung in the Democratic Party leadership. This is being interpreted as an appeal to both party members and the general public.

At a global business roundtable held in the afternoon at CODIT, an AI-based policy platform company located in Yeouido, Park stated, "I will listen to every single challenge and voice from the field that companies face, and I will ensure these are connected to institutional improvements."

A former accountant, Park highlighted his credentials as an economic expert and his ability to carry on President Lee's vision. He said, "For 20 years, I worked as an accountant, meeting experts in business, industry, real estate, and finance like yourselves, and I have understood and interpreted the economy in the language of the field. In the National Assembly, I have served on the Education, Political Affairs, Science and ICT, and Strategy and Finance Committees, constantly considering where companies' difficulties originate and how systems need to change."

He continued, "By visiting the field directly and developing solutions from within, I, Park Chan-dae, as the person who has worked most closely with President Lee Jaemyung for the longest time, promise to carry on this leadership of attentive listening."

Park also stressed the importance of swift policy legislation. He said, "Under the Lee Jaemyung administration, one of the changes many companies are experiencing firsthand is 'speed.' The government is taking the initiative, responding immediately, and addressing problems directly. Now, the Democratic Party must match that speed, or even surpass it."

In addition to advocating for rapid regulatory reform, Park held a press conference at the National Assembly's press center on the same day, where he announced his '10 major pledges for political and party reform,' including the introduction of a recall system for lawmakers, the revival of local party chapters, and the establishment of a permanent National Assembly Ethics Committee.

Park remarked, "Power that is unchecked is bound to rot. A train without brakes will eventually derail. Should we allow lawmakers to enjoy unchecked power, commit corruption, or even participate in or support rebellion without any checks in place?"

He also pledged to expand the annual tax deduction for political donations to 200,000 won, incorporate party member evaluations into the assessment of elected officials such as lawmakers, introduce a party member approval system for strategic nominations, expand the disclosure of party caucus meetings, and build a digital party platform.
