'Dalseong Toseong Village Alley Garden' Maintained by Residents Designated as Daegu's First Community Garden

The Seo District of Daegu (District Mayor Ryu Han-guk) announced on July 15 that the 'Dalseong Toseong Village Alley Garden', which has been voluntarily maintained by local residents, was designated as 'Daegu's first community garden' on July 10.

A community garden refers to a garden created and managed by local governments, corporations, villages, apartment complexes, or organizations formed by residents of certain areas, in accordance with the 'Act on the Creation and Promotion of Arboretums and Gardens'. Recently, community gardens have been gaining attention as part of community-based urban greening policies in various local governments.

As news spread that 'Dalseong Toseong Village Alley Garden' was designated as Daegu's first community garden, local residents are celebrating.

The Dalseong Toseong Village Alley Garden began in 2015 with a small act of residents placing flower pots in front of their homes. What was once an ordinary alley has evolved into over 100 unique gardens?including the Secret Garden, Tunnel Garden, and Sunflower Garden?thanks to the voluntary participation of residents. Today, it has become a healing spot in the city that attracts countless tourists every year. The beautifully decorated vine-covered walls and flower paths have become spaces that offer visitors precious memories.

The designation of Daegu's first community garden is being recognized as a successful example of urban regeneration, as it is led by residents to improve the urban environment. The residents plan to take even greater pride in their village and accelerate their efforts to maintain the alley garden following this designation.

Ryu Han-guk, Mayor of Seo District, stated, "The Dalseong Toseong Alley Garden has now become not only a source of pride for Seo District, but also a symbol of community gardens representing Daegu. We will do our utmost to provide continued support and create an environment where residents can take pride in maintaining the garden."
