On July 14, Joo Gwangdeok, Mayor of Namyangju City, emphasized this point regarding the final approval of the preliminary feasibility study for the underground expressway project connecting Toegyewon IC and Pangyo JCT by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. He stated, "We will make every effort to realize Namyangju as the premier transportation hub city in the Seoul metropolitan area."

This project involves the construction of a new underground expressway approximately 31.5 kilometers long, connecting the chronically congested sections of the Seoul Metropolitan Area First Ring Expressway. With a total project cost of 4.655 trillion won, it is a large-scale national project. As the first underground project to be promoted on the Seoul Metropolitan Area First Ring Expressway, it is expected to proactively address the increasing transportation demand in the third-generation new towns such as Wangsuk and Dasan.

Mayor Joo stated, "This project is not just about building a road; it is a key initiative that will improve the urban environment, enhance logistics efficiency, and restructure the transportation network in the northeastern part of the metropolitan area." He added, "Securing this core road axis passing through Namyangju will also accelerate balanced regional development."

He further emphasized, "The city will continue to strive to become the top transportation hub in the metropolitan area, aiming for 'connections beyond imagination.' We will also work closely with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to expedite the subsequent administrative procedures, including the establishment of the basic plan and detailed design."

Since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, Namyangju City has made the expansion of the metropolitan transportation network a core municipal policy. The city has promoted various transportation infrastructure projects, including the commencement of GTX-B construction, the opening of the Byeollae Line, the direct connection between the Gyeongchun Line and the Suin-Bundang Line, the early commencement of the Suseok Bridge construction, the promotion of the Jungbu Link Expressway, and the private investment project for the Second Gyeongchun Link Expressway.

In particular, this underground expressway project was included and approved as a preliminary feasibility study project after Namyangju City made multiple visits to the National Assembly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Korea Expressway Corporation to directly persuade and petition the relevant institutions. This achievement is regarded as a testament to the city's policy capabilities.
