The "Yangdong General Industrial Complex Development Project," a long-awaited initiative pursued by Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province, has been officially included in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's industrial complex designation plan for the second quarter of 2025. As the first industrial complex designation in the history of Yangpyeong County, it is being regarded as a significant turning point for the region's development.

According to Yangpyeong County on July 14, the Yangdong General Industrial Complex is planned to be built on approximately 58,000 square meters (about 17,600 pyeong) in the Yangdong-myeon area, with around 35,000 square meters designated for industrial facilities. The development will be carried out as a 100% public project, with Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) providing all the capital. The total project cost is estimated at approximately 23.8 billion won.
Notably, Yangpyeong County will cover half of the approximately 4.8 billion won required for infrastructure costs. However, the county's actual budget contribution is limited to 2.4 billion won, allowing the project to proceed without significant financial burden. The administrative process aims to complete basic design and various consultations by 2026, begin construction in 2028, and finish the project by 2032.
Yangpyeong County is developing this industrial complex as a demand-driven, strategic industry-focused zone. Through prior corporate demand surveys and industry analysis, the county has prioritized sectors with low environmental impact and high growth potential, such as electrical equipment, metal processing, rubber and plastics, and non-metal manufacturing.
Currently, 14 companies have expressed their intention to move in, securing demand equivalent to 285% of the available space. This result demonstrates the effectiveness of Yangpyeong County's strategic approach, which focused on creating a practical and viable industrial complex rather than simply supplying land.
The Yangdong Industrial Complex is the result not only of administrative planning but also of collective demands and cooperation within the local community. At the 2023 county government briefing and communication forum, residents consistently requested the establishment of an industrial complex, and numerous related petitions confirmed the policy's necessity.
The county has been proceeding according to plan with key steps such as submitting the designation plan and undergoing central industrial site reviews, in cooperation with GH. National Assembly member Kim Seonkyu also contributed to persuading the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport by continuously raising the need to resolve overlapping regulations and attract industry at the parliamentary level.
This industrial complex is designed not merely as a production hub but as a residential-type complex that enables work-life balance. Facilities such as dormitories for employees, a support center for small and medium-sized enterprises, a job center, and a daycare center will be established within the complex to provide essential living infrastructure.
Until now, the eastern region of Yangpyeong has faced limitations in revitalizing the local economy due to a lack of industrial infrastructure. However, with the establishment of this industrial complex, the area is expected to secure a practical economic base and achieve balanced development.
Yangpyeong County Governor Jin Jinseon stated, "The development of the Yangdong General Industrial Complex will serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the local economy by attracting businesses, creating jobs, and encouraging population inflow," adding, "We will faithfully carry out the subsequent procedures to ensure the successful completion of the complex."
