Launching a Practical Talent Development Program
at Icheon Jeil High School
Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province has taken its first step toward fostering practical talent in the semiconductor industry.
The city announced on July 14 that it has launched the "Icheon Semiconductor Future Talent Development Project" at Icheon Jeil High School starting that day.
This program, operated in cooperation with the Korea Ceramic Technology Institute until July 23, provides field-oriented technical education for the semiconductor industry to a total of nine third-year students at Icheon Jeil High School?six from the electronics department and three from the mechanical department.
During the first week, the curriculum combines basic theoretical and practical training on MCT and CNC. Participants will systematically learn the connection between semiconductor processes and mechanical machining technologies through simulator-based hands-on training.
In the second week, there will be advanced training on semiconductor processes and equipment. On the final day of the program, a special lecture on essential workplace skills will be offered, giving students the opportunity to develop organizational adaptability and job performance attitudes.
Icheon City is also preparing a follow-up program to help students who complete the training secure employment with outstanding local companies. Through this initiative, the city aims to establish a virtuous cycle job ecosystem that simultaneously ensures the stable retention of technical talent in the region and meets the workforce needs of local businesses.
Kim Kyunghee, Mayor of Icheon, stated, "This project is more than just job training; it is a comprehensive talent development model that connects students' career planning with real employment opportunities. It will serve as an important stepping stone for the city's leap toward becoming an advanced industrial city."
