Kang Minseok, Executive Director of Samsung Electronics MX Division, Press Conference
Emphasizing Enhanced Hinge and Display Durability, and Improved Performance
Fold7 Features 200-Megapixel Camera... Flip7 Boasts 1.25mm Bezel
"Making foldable phones thinner is never an easy task. Their structure is even more complex than that of bar-type smartphones, so we had to rethink everything from internal design to component layout," he said.
Kang Minseok, Executive Director of Samsung Electronics MX Division, made these remarks at a press conference held in New York, USA, on July 10 (local time), stating, "The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 are not just incremental improvements, but products that redefine the future of foldable smartphones."
He introduced the recently unveiled Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 as products that have revolutionized design, durability, performance, and user experience. The Fold7 measures 8.9mm when folded and 4.2mm when unfolded, making it 48% thinner than the first-generation Fold model. It weighs 215g, which is lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
He said, "Our goal was not simply to make it 'thinner and lighter,' but to 'make it right.' At every decision point, we focused on finding the optimal balance to create the most complete foldable possible," adding, "Innovation is not just about adding new features; it is the process of maximizing user-centric value."
Kang emphasized the key innovations of the Fold7. First, by applying the enhanced Armor FlexHinge, thickness was reduced by 27% and weight by 43% compared to the previous model, while maintaining durability and maximizing internal space efficiency.
For display innovation, the panel structure was optimized and new advanced materials were introduced, reducing the overall thickness by 39%. In addition, the material for the display's lower structure was changed from carbon fiber to titanium alloy, further enhancing durability.
A new actuator and a complete structural redesign enabled an 18% reduction in the camera module size while implementing a 200-megapixel camera. The cover screen features Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which is about 30% stronger than the previous generation. The frame and hinge cover use reinforced Armor Aluminum, further improving durability.
The Flip7 measures 6.5mm when unfolded and 13.7mm when folded, featuring a more compact design and excellent portability compared to its predecessor.
Kang stated that although the hinge thickness was reduced by 29% compared to the previous model, stable Flex Mode and durability were maintained. In addition, a newly designed high-density circuit board was used to eliminate wasted space between components such as the camera, receiver, and microphone, resulting in the highest level of internal integration among all Galaxy smartphones.
All major internal components, including the camera module and battery, were further optimized to be thinner. In particular, the battery is more compact yet offers a capacity 300mAh larger than the previous model, providing longer usage time.
The Flip7 further enhances design completeness along with portability. The cover screen design extends boldly to the edges on all sides, offering a cleaner display layout. The display bezel is only 1.25mm thick, 70% thinner than the previous model, delivering both a wider usable screen and a more sophisticated design.
Kang said, "The Flip7 is not just about its small size, but about providing usability that naturally fits into everyday life," adding, "This is the true meaning of innovation."
He stated, "The Fold7 and Flip7 are the result of finding the perfect balance between design, durability, and user experience," and added, "We will continue to meet customer needs while leading Samsung's unique innovation in the foldable category."
