Signing of Business Agreement Between Ministry of the Interior and Safety and HiteJinro
Promoting Mobile Identification for Responsible Drinking Culture and Small Business Recovery
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety is launching an active promotional campaign in cooperation with liquor companies to ensure that mobile identification is not rejected when used for age verification at restaurants, convenience stores, and similar establishments.
On July 14 at 3:30 p.m., the Ministry and HiteJinro signed a "Business Agreement for Fostering a Responsible Drinking Culture with Mobile Identification" at the HiteJinro Seocho headquarters. The agreement aims to promote mobile identification as a highly reliable means of identity verification, foster a culture of responsible drinking, and ultimately contribute to the recovery of small business owners and the local economy.
Recently, as more young people carry only their smartphones instead of wallets, there has been a rise in cases where purchases of age-restricted items such as alcohol and tobacco are denied because they cannot present a physical ID. With this agreement, it is expected that as awareness spreads that mobile identification can accurately verify adulthood without a wallet, small business owners will also see increased sales.
Mobile identification features animated effects on certain background elements, and when the smartphone is tilted, the light pattern around the ID reacts and moves according to the angle, preventing forgery or alteration using photos or videos.
After signing the business agreement, the two organizations visited "Baekssine Baeknyeon Samgyeopsal," one of the "Good Price Stores," and personally posted a promotional poster with the slogan "Now, please verify yourself with mobile identification." They also provided the store owner with an instruction sheet on how to determine the authenticity of mobile identification.
HiteJinro will actively support the promotion of mobile identification by leveraging its liquor distribution network. Starting at the end of July, 1.5 million bottles of Chamisul with mobile identification promotional labels will be distributed nationwide in stages.
Kim Minjae, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated, "This business agreement will serve as an opportunity for mobile identification to become a trusted means of identity verification for the public," and added, "We will continue to do our best to ensure that the government's digital transformation efforts, in partnership with the private sector, can provide real support for the recovery of the local economy."
