Gongju City Partners with Kakao to Foster 'Digital Dangol' and Boost Local Commercial Districts

Gongju City in South Chungcheong Province is set to actively support the digital transformation of local traditional markets and neighborhood commercial districts.

On July 11, the city announced that it had signed a business agreement for the 'Kakao Project Dangol' with Kakao Corp. at the Daebaekje Room of City Hall, aiming to strengthen the digital competitiveness of local small business owners.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Choi Woncheol, as well as representatives from Kakao Corp., the social enterprise Together With The World, the Small Enterprise and Market Service, the Gongju Sanseong Market Merchants Association, the 147 Alley-Type Store Association, and the Gongsanseong Alley-Type Store Association.

'Kakao Project Dangol' is a field-oriented mutual growth program designed to help small business owners in traditional markets and neighborhood commercial districts secure online customers and maintain ongoing communication with them.

Through this agreement, small business owners in Gongju will be provided with a variety of digital capacity-building programs, including: ▲support for opening KakaoTalk channels and communicating with customers ▲Kakao Map store registration and indoor map creation ▲live commerce support ▲operation of online marketing campaigns ▲dispatch of professional instructors and one-on-one customized education.

The city expects that this digital infrastructure will lead to tangible increases in sales and customer acquisition for local businesses.

In particular, as traditional markets that were previously limited to offline operations become more active in the online space, this initiative is expected to inject new vitality into the overall local economy.

Mayor Choi Woncheol stated, "This agreement marks an important beginning in line with the era of digital transformation," adding, "We will spare no effort in providing various policies and support to help local small business owners build competitiveness and achieve sustainable growth."

The city also plans to continue working with private companies and related organizations to promote various projects aimed at strengthening the self-sufficiency of traditional markets and neighborhood commercial districts.
