The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jongshik) announced that on July 12, it attended the 'I-Leader Launch Ceremony' hosted by the Green Umbrella ChildFund Korea Gyeongbuk Regional Office at the Change Up Ground Event Hall of Pohang University of Science and Technology in Pohang. At the event, the Superintendent presented commendations to outstanding I-Leaders and talent mentors, and held a donation ceremony.
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education signed a business agreement with Green Umbrella in January 2021 to establish a child support system and foster a culture of sharing, and has maintained a cooperative relationship since then. The event was attended by about 80 people, including I-Leader students and their guardians, talent mentors, sponsors, as well as officials from the Office of Education and the foundation, and was held successfully.
Baek Heewook, Director of Policy Bureau at Gyeongbuk Office of Education, is giving a congratulatory speech at the donation ceremony.
During the event, two I-Leader students who excelled in sports and academics, as well as one former talent mentor, received commendations from the Gyeongbuk Superintendent of Education. In addition, Green Umbrella ChildFund Korea announced plans to provide a total of 446.24 million won in sponsorship funds to 65 students in the province who were selected as I-Leaders for 2025 (15 in the arts, 33 in sports, and 17 in academics).
'I-Leader' is a compound word of 'I' (child) and 'Leader,' referring to talented students participating in the talent development program operated by Green Umbrella ChildFund Korea since 2010. The foundation has continuously selected and supported students with outstanding abilities in various fields such as arts, sports, and academics in the Gyeongbuk region over 16 cohorts up to this year.
In 2024, a total of 283.94 million won was provided to 33 I-Leaders in the Gyeongbuk region. Each selected student received between 5 million and up to 10 million won per year in sponsorship funds, which are used for a variety of purposes such as specialized education programs, purchasing textbooks and teaching materials, and participating in various competitions.
Lim Jongshik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, said, "The 'I-Leader' talent development program by Green Umbrella ChildFund Korea is a very meaningful initiative that helps students fully develop their talents and realize their dreams. The Gyeongbuk Office of Education will continue to do its utmost to carefully nurture and support the potential of each and every child in partnership with the local community."
