Winners to Receive Cash Prizes and Certificates from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province
Gyeonggi Province will be recruiting participants for the DMZ OPEN Idea Contest for 40 days, from July 14 to August 22, under the theme "DMZ OPEN Festival Made by Us," in order to realize a peace festival created by all citizens.
The DMZ OPEN Festival is a comprehensive event held in the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) border area of northern Gyeonggi. It features the Melody of Peace (arts), Resonance of Knowledge (academics), Borderless Movement (sports), and is an open festival where everyone comes together beyond division and boundaries.
The contest aims to raise public interest in the DMZ and to discover creative ideas from people across the country to help build the DMZ OPEN Festival together. Individuals or teams can participate in the contest and may submit proposals in one of four categories: DMZ OPEN ▲Concert ▲Exhibition ▲Sports ▲Forum.
Anyone residing in Korea, including foreigners, is eligible to participate and can apply through the website www.2025dmzidea.kr.
After the application deadline, a first-round document screening, an interim presentation, and a second-round evaluation will be conducted to select a total of nine individuals or teams. Participants will take part in the DMZ OPEN Festival in their chosen category and will refine their ideas through various forms of expert mentoring. The final presentation, scheduled for around November, will determine the rankings and include an awards ceremony.
The prizes are as follows: one Grand Prize winner will receive 5 million won, two Excellence Award teams will each receive 3 million won, three Merit Award teams will each receive 2 million won, and three Encouragement Award teams will each receive 1 million won. In addition, recipients of the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, and Merit Award will also receive a commendation from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province.
Kim Taehyun, Director of Peace and Cooperation at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "This contest is not just about submitting ideas; those selected through the contest will be actively incorporated into the 2026 DMZ OPEN Festival. We will continue to make efforts to ensure that the DMZ OPEN Festival is created by everyone together."
