Dalseong's "Secheonneup Theme Garden," Famous for Tulips, Registered as Daegu's First Local Garden... Covers 124,987 Square Meters

On July 3, Secheonri Secheonneup Theme Garden in Dasa-eup, Dalseong County, Daegu, was officially registered as Daegu's first local garden.

Secheonri is known as a prime location with a lotus-on-water shape (Yeonhwabusuhyeong), where the Geumho River, Macheonsan Mountain, and Gungsan Peak of the Cheongnyong Ridge come together. The current Secheonneup Theme Garden is located where the former Secheonneup Swamp once existed, and was converted into a retention basin as part of the development of the Seongseo 5th Advanced Industrial Complex.

Since 2012, it has served as a temporary habitat for trees while maintaining its function as a retention basin. Starting in 2021, with funding from both the national and county governments, the site underwent full-scale garden development, restoring both the appearance of the Secheonneup Theme Garden and its original name, Secheonneup.

According to the Act on the Creation and Promotion of Arboretums and Gardens, a local garden must be created and operated by a local government, have a total area of at least 100,000 square meters, a green space ratio of at least 40 percent, meet requirements for experiential and convenience facilities, and receive approval from the city or provincial governor.

Since last year, Dalseong County in Daegu has invested 1 billion won to meet these requirements, establishing convenience facilities such as restrooms, a waterside deck, and a waterwheel hut, as well as experiential spaces. In May, the Seongseo 5th Industrial Complex on-street parking lot project was completed, creating about 240 parking spaces near the garden and greatly improving accessibility.

With a total area of 124,987 square meters, Secheonneup Theme Garden has already gained popularity as a "tulip hotspot" on social media even before its official registration. The garden offers a rich variety of attractions throughout the year, with tulips and wisteria in spring, roses in early summer, and pink muhly grass in autumn, each season offering its own unique charm. With improved amenities and accessibility, the number of visitors is expected to increase even further.

Choi Jaehoon, Governor of Dalseong County, Daegu, stated, "As the first local garden in Daegu, Secheonneup Theme Garden will become a new milestone in the region's garden culture. Gardens that reflect the changing seasons and improved facilities will provide great satisfaction not only to local residents but also to visitors from other regions, and are expected to have a positive impact on the spread of garden culture."
