"Kim Gyeri Outraged: Discloses Account for Yoon's Prison Funds, Says 'He Didn't Embezzle Billions'"

Strong Discontent Over Search and Seizure: "Stop Putting On a Show"
Warning Message: "Next, It Will Be Your Turn"

Attorney Kim Gyeri, who served as a defense lawyer in the impeachment trial of former President Yoon Seokyeol, on July 11 disclosed the account number for deposits to support former President Yoon and strongly criticized the special prosecutor's search and seizure of his residence.

"Kim Gyeri Outraged: Discloses Account for Yoon's Prison Funds, Says 'He Didn't Embezzle Billions'" Attorney Kim Gyeri, who served as a defense lawyer in the impeachment trial of former President Yoon Seokyeol, disclosed the account number for donations to support former President Yoon and strongly criticized the special prosecutor's search and seizure of his residence. Yonhap News

On her Facebook page that day, Kim stated, "It is unthinkable for the President to carry cash around, so he was suddenly taken in without a single penny and has been unable to purchase anything," adding, "Until yesterday, I was told that a formal inmate number had not been assigned, so no deposits could be made."

She continued, "The inmate number was only issued late yesterday, and this morning everyone was preoccupied with the search and seizure. I was told that the deposit had to be made before 4 p.m. in order to purchase personal items before the weekend, so I made the deposit urgently," and she also disclosed the specific account information.

In addition, Kim characterized the current situation as political persecution, stating, "For a lawyer, it is emotionally devastating when a client is detained twice," and added, "The rule of law should not be encroached upon by the realm of politics, but it is clear that all such boundaries are collapsing."

She went on to say, "This is not just about the President's case," and left a meaningful warning: "You may not understand what this means. Next, it will be your turn."

Kim was particularly critical of the fact that former President Yoon became subject to criminal prosecution despite not having gained any personal benefit. She stated, "He did not embezzle billions through development corruption, nor did he hand over slush funds to leftists. Even after thorough investigations, there was not a single instance of personal enrichment?yet his outrage has become a crime for the special prosecutor. Martial law is being treated as insurrection by the special prosecutor," she said, sharpening her criticism.

Kim also strongly objected to the search and seizure of former President Yoon's residence. Referring to the search of his Acrovista apartment in Seocho-dong, which was conducted in connection with the so-called 'VIP outrage' theory regarding the death of Marine Corporal Chae, she described it as "putting on a show."

She said, "The special prosecutor claims that former President Yoon's outrage over the Chae case constitutes abuse of authority. I am genuinely curious. Even if presidential outrage is a crime, wouldn't he have expressed it at the Hannam-dong official residence or the Yongsan office at the time, rather than at the Acrovista apartment in Seocho-dong after his removal from office?"

She further criticized, "Did he write his outrage down on paper? The person in question is currently at Seoul Detention Center, so what evidence of outrage is there to justify searching the Acrovista residence?" She added, "Stop putting on a show," and escalated her criticism by accusing the court of indiscriminately issuing warrants.

Her criticism of the special prosecutor continued. She said, "Isn't this the kind of thing people called 'political prosecutors' and pushed for the complete removal of prosecutorial investigative powers for? The special prosecutor is even worse." She went on, "When it happens to you, it's 'political prosecutors' and 'the reason for abolishing the prosecution,' but when the special prosecutor does it, is it justified? This is hypocrisy."

Kim drew attention during the final defense statement at the impeachment trial on February 25, when she declared, "I have been enlightened." At the time, she introduced herself as "a mother of a 14-month-old daughter," and explained, "While I was preoccupied with pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare, I was unaware of the Democratic Party's misdeeds and dictatorial actions. After realizing this, I decided to devote the time I had set aside for my child to participate in this case."
