Gallup Poll Shows Party Support Falls Below 20 Percent Threshold
Ahn Cheolsoo Urges Party Reform Through SNS
Calls for Complete End to "Jin Yoon" Authoritarian Politics
Ahn Cheolsoo, who has declared his candidacy for the leadership of the People Power Party, asserted on July 11 that "the era of the so-called 'Jin Yoon' authoritarian politics must come to a complete end," in response to recent polls showing the party's support rate dropping into the 10 percent range.
Through his social network service (SNS) account on this day, Ahn stated, "According to Gallup, our party's approval rating has now fallen to 19 percent, breaking through the final threshold of 20 percent." He added, "This is the same result as the NBS poll released yesterday."
According to a poll released earlier by Gallup Korea (conducted from July 8 to 10, interviewing 1,002 people nationwide aged 18 and older via telephone interviewer method, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level, and a response rate of 11.7 percent), the People Power Party's approval rating dropped by 3 percentage points from the previous week, reaching 19 percent. The Democratic Party of Korea's approval rating stood at 43 percent.
Regarding this, Ahn commented, "Like a boiling frog, we are slowly dying, trapped in outdated politics of our own making." He reflected, "This is the result of ignoring the stern warnings from the public to renew and change, failing to make any effort toward transformation, and focusing solely on protecting vested interests."
He went on to stress, "Innovation must always be accompanied by responsibility and determination."
He added, "The answer is clear: the era of 'Jin Yoon' authoritarian politics must come to a complete end. Only cleansing and innovation will allow us to move forward again."
