'Rearrested' Yoon Submits Letter of Non-Appearance Ahead of Special Prosecutor's Summons for Insurrection Investigation

'Rearrested' Yoon Submits Letter of Non-Appearance Ahead of Special Prosecutor's Summons for Insurrection Investigation Yonhap News

Yoon's attorney stated on this day, "Former President Yoon submitted a letter of non-appearance to the Seoul Detention Center yesterday." However, the special prosecutor's team announced that they had not yet received the letter. The team had planned to conduct their first investigation into allegations of abuse of power and other charges against Yoon since securing his custody.

After being released in March, Yoon had been undergoing trial and investigation without detention, but was rearrested on July 10 on charges including abuse of power. This is the first special prosecutor's investigation since his rearrest.

It is reported that the special prosecutor's team has completed a legal review confirming that, if a detained suspect refuses to appear for questioning, they may forcibly bring in the suspect based on the issued detention warrant.

If Yoon does not comply with the special prosecutor's request to appear, there is a high possibility that he will exercise his right to remain silent even if he is brought in by force.

The legal team is expected to file a request with the court for a review of the legality of the detention, arguing that the detention is unjust. If such a review is requested, the special prosecutor's investigation will be suspended.
