Changwon Special City Mobilizes All Efforts to Minimize Record-Breaking Heat Wave Damage

Promoting Countermeasures in Five Key Areas:

Agriculture and Livestock, Drought, and Water Quality

As disaster-level heat waves continue, Changwon Special City is implementing thorough on-site measures to minimize heat-related damage, focusing on five key areas: health protection, facility management, agriculture, livestock and fisheries, drought and water quality, and public relations and response systems.

On July 11, the city held a 'Heat Wave Countermeasure Progress Report Meeting' to review the progress in each area and strengthen administrative response to the heat wave.


During the meeting, the city first reviewed measures in the health protection area to ensure the safety of vulnerable groups such as field workers, senior job program participants, and elderly people living alone. The facility management area was also assessed, focusing on the operation of heat-reducing facilities and the normal functioning of public infrastructure, including water parks.


In addition, the city checked the status of the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sector, which includes preventive measures against damage such as livestock and fish deaths. The drought and water quality area was reviewed in relation to agricultural and domestic water supply and response to algal blooms. The meeting also included discussions on public relations and response systems to ensure that disaster alerts and heat wave countermeasures are effectively implemented in the field.


Jang Geumyong, acting mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "The heat wave is severe, with record-high temperatures being set nationwide. As it is the duty of the administration to ensure the safety of citizens, I urge all departments to mobilize all available resources and make every effort to prevent any safety accidents at their facilities and in the field in advance."


Additionally, Acting Mayor Jang instructed the establishment of detailed safety measures to prevent heat-related illnesses caused by waiting in high temperatures during the upcoming 'Livelihood Recovery Consumption Coupon' distribution project.


The city plans to continue implementing heat wave countermeasures reflecting the outcomes of the meeting, focusing administrative efforts on minimizing heat-related damage during the summer.
