Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries and BPA to Hold Port Safety Culture Week

Seminar for Safety Stakeholders, Safety Campaigns, and Intensive Activities to Prevent Heat-Related Illnesses

Busan Port Authority (President Song Sanggeun) and Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries (Director Kim Hyejeong) will hold the 'Port Safety Culture Week' for five days from July 14 to 18 to promote a culture of safety at Busan Port.

The Port Safety Culture Week has been organized every year since the enactment of the Special Act on Port Safety in August 2022, with the aim of spreading a culture of safety at port sites and raising safety awareness among port safety stakeholders.

This year, on the first day, July 14, a seminar on disaster prevention for port safety stakeholders will be held at BEXCO in Busan. From July 15, for four days, safety campaigns and joint inspections will be conducted in cooperation with related businesses and organizations involved in port safety.

The first day's seminar will feature presentations on the following topics: symptoms and first aid for heat-related illnesses; port safety policy directions for 2025; and major port safety accident statistics and prevention measures for 2024.

During the subsequent safety campaign, public sector organizations, including the government, and port transport business associations will pledge to prevent port safety accidents and distribute supplies to prevent heat-related illnesses to on-site workers during the hot season.

Kim Hongwon, Head of Port Logistics Division at the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, stated, "As heat waves have become a daily reality, preventing heat-related illnesses among port workers is more important than ever," and added, "We hope that this Port Safety Culture Week will lead to practical, site-centered activities that protect workers' health."

Kim Hyoseok, Head of Disaster Safety at Busan Port Authority, also emphasized, "Since heat-related illnesses can become fatal disasters in the high-intensity work environment of ports, we urge all stakeholders responsible for on-site management to pay special attention and actively implement preventive measures."
