"The President Orders Political Retaliation"
"The Party Leader Executes the Orders"
Regarding the Special Act on the Investigation of Insurrection: "Crushing the Opposition"
Na Kyungwon, a member of the People Power Party, characterized the Democratic Party’s leadership primary as “an election to select the chief executive of President Lee Jaemyung’s duplicitous and double-faced rule.” She argued that while the president talks about cooperation, in reality he orders political retaliation, with the party leader carrying out those actions.
On July 11, through her Facebook page, Na Kyungwon stated, “In short, the Democratic Party’s primary is a move toward a system where ‘the president speaks, but the party leader wields the sword.’ This is evident from the fact that Park Chandae, who is rapidly rising in prominence with the support of ‘Myeongsim,’ has publicly declared he will ensure the passage of the Special Act on the Investigation of Insurrection. This amounts to a proxy political declaration by President Lee Jaemyung to institutionalize the removal of political opponents.”
Regarding the Special Act on the Investigation of Insurrection, she said, “It aims to label the People Power Party as a party that produces insurrectionists, cut off state subsidies, and ultimately force the dissolution of the People Power Party and erase the traditional conservative bloc from the political landscape. Over 60 Democratic Party lawmakers who support ‘Myeongsim’ have co-sponsored this bill. This is by no means a trivial matter.”
This controversy arose after Park Chandae, a candidate for Democratic Party leader, included a clause in the Special Act on the Investigation of Insurrection that targets the People Power Party by reclaiming state subsidies. In response, People Power Party lawmakers have strongly opposed the bill, calling it an attempt to “crush the opposition.”
Na Kyungwon further stated, “They are dismantling the existing investigative and judicial system through the disbandment of the prosecution, the proliferation of special investigations, the establishment of a national investigation committee, and an increase in the number of Supreme Court justices. This is a meticulous structural takeover designed to eliminate political opponents. The organized abuse of legislative and judicial power?even mentioning the dissolution of unconstitutional parties?as tools for such purposes is an unprecedented abuse of power in a democratic nation and a systematic assault on the very foundation of party democracy.”
She added, “Their objective is clear: to neutralize the checks and balances of party democracy and establish a long-term ruling structure without opposition parties. Their deceptive attempt to disguise this as democracy through a so-called ‘1.5-party system,’ which would dismantle genuine conservatives and keep a token conservative party as a mere accessory, is outrageous.”
In conclusion, she emphasized the need for internal change and unity. Na Kyungwon said, “The crisis of conservatism stems from internal division, and the future of conservatism begins with unity for a greater cause. Only by facing the Democratic Party’s scenario for the destruction of conservatism with confidence, and by defending the essence of conservatism through reform and unity, can we safeguard the future of a free Republic of Korea.”
