Free Delivery Expected to Boost Consumption of Local Specialties
Gongju City in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 11th that it has been selected for the "Drone Demonstration City Development" public project for the second consecutive year and will begin drone-based demonstration delivery services starting from the 12th.
The drone delivery service is a lifestyle-oriented logistics service utilizing drones that citizens and tourists can experience in their daily lives. It will be operated at locations such as the Gomnaroo Children's Swimming Pool and the Four Seasons Sledding Hill.
Deliveries will be made through the public delivery app "Hwiparam," allowing users to receive a variety of foods by drone, including Gongju’s local specialties such as chestnuts and chestnut bread, dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken), traditional whole fried chicken, and various coffee drinks. Delivery fees are completely free of charge.
The city operates a total of 15 delivery points based on 3 delivery bases, utilizing 2 drones that can carry up to 5 kilograms of goods. In the event of adverse weather conditions, deliveries will be temporarily suspended for safety reasons.
The city expects that this drone delivery service will not only help boost consumption of local specialties, but will also enhance convenience for tourists and contribute positively to the popularization of drone culture.
Mayor Choi Woncheol stated, "This drone delivery service is not just a simple technology demonstration, but a practical service that citizens and tourists can experience in their daily lives." He added, "We will accelerate the development of a Gongju-style drone standard model and the creation of a drone industry ecosystem to further solidify the foundation of a smart city."
