Samsung Health Feature Monetization Under Review

Samsung Electronics will launch its 'AI Health Coach' service in the US market within this year.

Samsung to Launch 'AI Health Coach' in US This Year

Park Heonsu, Head of the Digital Health Team at Samsung Electronics' MX Division, stated this at a press conference held on July 10 (local time) in Brooklyn, New York, right after the 'Galaxy Tech Forum' event. He said, "We will build an environment where hospitals and medical systems can always be connected through applications (hereafter, apps) and wearable devices."

The AI Health Coach will be provided in the form of a chatbot through the 'Samsung Health' app. It will analyze users' daily health information and medical data in an integrated manner to offer personalized health insights. When any abnormality in health is detected, generative AI will provide optimized coaching.

Park explained, "We plan to launch the service first in the US market to gather various feedback," adding that the domestic launch schedule has not yet been determined.

However, he made it clear that this service is intended as a supplementary tool for health management. Regarding the AI Health Coach service, he said, "It is designed to encourage users to maintain healthy lifestyle habits and to alert them to risks when warning signs are detected in their health," and emphasized, "It does not provide accurate diagnosis or treatment. For those areas, users will be guided to seek opinions from medical professionals."

Samsung Electronics is also considering monetizing the Samsung Health features. Park said, "Currently, the health features we offer are provided free of charge, but once additional features are released in the future, a revenue policy will be decided," and added, "Through Jels, which we recently acquired, various business models could emerge in the business-to-business (B2B) market."

Jels, which Samsung Electronics acquired on July 7, is a digital health platform. It enables medical professionals to comprehensively review patient conditions and prescribe or recommend optimal digital healthcare solutions. Samsung Electronics plans to provide a 'connected care' service through the Jels platform, which will link biometric data collected from wearable devices to specialized medical services.
