Gwangju City is accelerating the maintenance work on the spectator seats at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field (Champions Field) during the professional baseball All-Star break. The city plans to raise the work progress rate to 60% by the 16th, when there are no home games during the break.

On the 10th, Gwangju Mayor Kang Kijeong visited Gwangju-Kia Champions Field, where the seat replacement work is underway, to inspect the maintenance site and encourage the outdoor workers.

Mayor Kang checked the working environment of the employees who are enduring the heatwave. He inspected whether rest and heatwave prevention supplies were provided, whether the rule of 50 minutes of work followed by 10 minutes of rest was being observed, and whether work was stopped immediately if signs of heat-related illness appeared. He also personally examined the replacement work of the seat cushions, backrests, and cup holders, which are of particular interest to KIA Tigers fans at Champions Field.

The city is investing more than 600 million won to completely replace 16,294 old and deteriorated spectator seats that have become discolored or damaged. To improve safety and comfort, the new seats will have larger cushions, backrests, and cup holders compared to the previous ones. While the design and color will remain the same, they will be replaced with new, fresher versions.

In particular, the city aims to accelerate the replacement work during the professional baseball All-Star break and achieve a work progress rate of 60.8% (9,907 seats). Unless there are special changes in weather or other circumstances, the city plans to complete the seat replacement by the end of August.

Mayor Kang stated, "I hope the renewed energy of Champions Field, which will be further revitalized by the complete replacement of the spectator seats, will help lead the KIA Tigers to victory. Gwangju City will swiftly and safely complete the maintenance so that citizens can enjoy the games and cheer in a more comfortable environment."
