The Chungnam Provincial Council is actively working to attract retired overseas Koreans in order to boost population inflow and promote regional development. The council's research group dedicated to attracting retired overseas Koreans held its inaugural ceremony on the 10th and officially began its activities. This research group was established with the purpose of successfully leading Chungnam Province’s initiative to attract retired overseas Koreans to settle in the region.
The research group is led by Council Member Lee Jonghwa (Hongseong 2, People Power Party) and consists of seven members, including provincial council members, county council members, and experts. Four members from the overseas Korean community in the Americas have also joined the group.
Going forward, the group plans to carry out various activities aimed at balanced regional development and revitalization of the local economy in Chungnam by establishing settlement villages for overseas Koreans. To achieve this, they plan to focus discussions on several key tasks: attracting retired overseas Koreans by creating senior towns in the Chungnam region; selecting optimal project sites for the migration and settlement of overseas Koreans; establishing integrated living and cultural spaces by linking private facilities and local resources within the province; and discovering and promoting project initiatives in connection with existing systems such as opportunity development zones.
Lee Jonghwa, the head of the research group, stated, "Chungnam offers ideal conditions for attracting retirees, with excellent accessibility to the Seoul metropolitan area, beautiful natural environments along the west coast, and relatively affordable housing costs," adding, "Through this research group, we hope to establish practical population inflow policies for the province and further contribute to the completion of the Chungnam Innovation City."
