A man in his 30s has been sentenced to prison for breaking into the courthouse and assaulting police officers during the riot at the Seoul Western District Court.

On July 10, Judge Heo Junseo of the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 11 sentenced Lee (34) to three years in prison on charges of aggravated unlawful entry into a building, aggravated obstruction of official duties, and aggravated damage to public property.


The court stated, "From the investigation stage, the defendant has offered unreasonable excuses and does not appear to be genuinely remorseful for his actions."


Lee was charged with breaking into the court premises during the riot at the Seoul Western District Court that took place on January 19, after an arrest warrant was issued for former President Yoon Sukyeol. He was also accused of obstructing police officers in the performance of their duties while entering the courthouse, and breaking the courthouse windows together with other protesters. In addition, he assaulted a police officer by pushing him while the officer was attempting to subdue him with a police shield.
