This seminar was organized to share leadership strategies for preventing serious industrial accidents and establishing autonomous safety management systems, targeting environmental safety executives of member companies. The event was held in response to the increasing importance of environmental safety leaders within companies, following the strengthened enforcement and broader application of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
At the seminar, more than 30 environmental safety executives from major chemical companies such as Dongseo Petrochemical, Lotte Chemical, Geocentric, Dow Chemical Korea, BASF Korea, and Hanwha Solutions attended. They shared the current status of safety management at their respective companies and explored future cooperation measures.
Um Chanwang, Vice Chairman of the Korea Chemical Industry Association, stated, "For a site-centered safety culture to take root, a change in perception and practical leadership by top management are essential," adding, "I hope this seminar serves as an opportunity for environmental safety leaders to establish and implement more effective strategies."
Lee Gyehoon, CEO of Fidelity Solution, presented on the topic of "Three Key Insights for Safety Leadership in Preventing Serious Accidents." He emphasized that on-site practice of safety leadership, establishment of safety leadership evaluation and management systems, and leadership participation in serious accident prevention activities are core elements for preventing serious accidents. He explained, through analysis of real cases, how the role of leaders can lead to a safety culture throughout the organization.
Lee Jungwoo, attorney at Yulchon LLC, explained recent policy trends of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and directions for corporate response. He stressed the importance of establishing a proactive risk assessment system at the management level and improving organizational structures. He also helped participants' understanding by interpreting frequently problematic issues and case studies encountered in practice.
The Korea Chemical Industry Association plans to use this seminar as a starting point to go beyond simple legal compliance, to strengthen field-oriented execution strategies, enhance environmental safety leadership training, and establish a system for sharing best practices among member companies. The association will continue to pursue practical support measures in these areas.
