Attracting Tourists and Revitalizing Local Businesses
The Sunchang Fermentation Tourism Foundation in North Jeolla Province has launched a 'Tourism Platform Coupon Book' to attract tourists to the region and revitalize local businesses.
According to the county on July 10, this coupon book is part of a strategy to translate tourism consumption into more tangible local economic benefits. It reflects recent changes in tourism trends and incorporates considerations for a region-based co-prosperity model.
The foundation is distributing the coupon book to tourists visiting the Sunchang Fermentation Theme Park. A total of 28 local businesses, including accommodations, restaurants, experience facilities, and cafes, are participating in the coupon book, and the number of participating businesses is expected to continue increasing.
Tourists who possess the coupon book can receive benefits such as discounts, free gifts, and preferential experiences at each business. This has garnered a positive response, as it provides tangible satisfaction for visitors.
Notably, the coupon book is designed not only to function as a set of discount coupons, but also to naturally connect various tourist routes and consumption venues within the region. This aims to both extend tourists' length of stay and disperse spending throughout the local area.
This is significant in that it breaks away from the previous structure, where spending was concentrated only at major tourist attractions, and instead provides real sales benefits to small business owners throughout the region.
In particular, the foundation is actively promoting the coupon book not only at visitor information facilities within the Fermentation Theme Park but also through booths at external festivals and events. Efforts are also ongoing to expand the number of participating businesses and improve operational efficiency.
One participating business commented, "Thanks to the coupon book, many tourists from outside the region are visiting, and the number of first-time customers who become regulars through the discount benefits is also increasing. It is very satisfying, as it is providing real support to the local business community."
County Governor Choi Youngil stated, "The Tourism Platform Coupon Book provides valuable benefits to tourists while serving as a channel for local small business owners to attract new customers. We will continue to work toward building a sustainable tourism ecosystem where tourism and the local economy can thrive together."
