Laying the Foundation for the Normalization of Busan Education
Promoting AI Education and Strengthening Basic Academic Skills
On July 11, Seokjun Kim, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, marked his 100th day in office and stated, "Over the past three years, I have focused on restoring the self-esteem of the education community, which has been worn down, and on realizing an educational administration based on empathy and trust." He shared the achievements so far and outlined future plans.

Superintendent Kim said, "I have been working tirelessly to fulfill the promise of 'normalizing Busan education' that I made to the education community and citizens," adding, "As a result, I am hearing positive feedback that the educational field is regaining its vitality."
In practice, Superintendent Kim has reviewed major policies that have faced significant criticism and adjusted some projects through supplementary budgets to reduce the burden on schools. He plans to reflect the overall policy direction in the 2026 business plan.
Additionally, through organizational restructuring, a Department of Democratic Citizenship Education was newly established, and an 'AI·Data Research Team' was formed within the Education Policy Research Institute. This is part of the 'AI Good Data Lab' initiative, which was a campaign pledge.
In the second half of the year, the focus will be on strengthening AI education, introducing generative AI, operating prompt engineering courses, and expanding support for basic academic skills such as literacy and numeracy improvement.
Other initiatives include expanding support for student transportation for safety, promoting the conversion of Busan Electronic Technical High School into a semiconductor Meister high school, and addressing educational blind spots through cooperation with relevant local community organizations.
Superintendent Kim said, "Just as it takes a whole village to raise a child, the efforts of the Office of Education alone are not enough," and requested, "I ask for the continued interest and support of Busan citizens and the education community."
