Banners Urging Residents to Refrain from Outdoor Activities
at Community Sports Grounds During Heatwaves
Seongsan-gu in Changwon Special City, South Gyeongsang Province, has put up banners at eight local community sports grounds, urging residents to refrain from outdoor activities during heatwaves in order to protect citizens' health and prevent safety accidents amid the ongoing extreme heat.
This measure was implemented to prevent health issues such as heat-related illnesses caused by heatwaves. It aims to inform residents to avoid prolonged outdoor activities in hot weather and to strictly follow health guidelines during heatwaves.
Heat-related illnesses are acute conditions caused by exposure to heat. Symptoms include headache, dizziness, muscle cramps, fatigue, and decreased consciousness when exposed to hot environments for extended periods. If left untreated, these conditions can become life-threatening.
To prevent such illnesses, it is important to drink water frequently even if you are not thirsty, stay in cool places, and avoid activities during the hottest hours of the day.
Kim Su-yun, head of the Culture and Sanitation Division, stated, "Not only vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children, but also those engaging in exercise or leisure activities, are at increased risk of heat-related illnesses if health guidelines are neglected." She urged, "During heatwaves, please refrain from physical activities outdoors and be sure to follow health guidelines."
