Korea Tourism Organization to Host "Korea Tourism Data Lab Utilization Competition"

Applications Accepted Until August 29

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization announced on July 10 that they will be accepting applications for the "Korea Tourism Data Lab Utilization Competition" until August 29.


This competition was designed to promote a data-driven decision-making culture within the tourism industry. The themes include cases where tourism data and data from other sectors have been used to achieve tangible results, such as ▲ revitalizing marketing and promotion ▲ generating economic outcomes such as sales and profits ▲ contributing to the activation of local tourism ▲ solving safety issues at tourist destinations ▲ developing app and web services.

Korea Tourism Organization to Host "Korea Tourism Data Lab Utilization Competition"

The total prize money for the competition is 20 million won. The grand prize winner will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and 5 million won in prize money. The Korea Tourism Organization President's Award will be given to ▲ two runners-up (2 million won each) ▲ six excellence awardees (1 million won each) ▲ ten encouragement awardees (500,000 won each).


Anyone who uses the Korea Tourism Data Lab is eligible to participate. After reviewing the competition guidelines on the Korea Tourism Data Lab website, applicants can submit their entries via email.


The Korea Tourism Data Lab is a tourism-specialized big data platform operated by the Korea Tourism Organization. It provides a variety of tourism big data and integrated analysis services, including mobile communications, credit card, navigation, tourism statistics, and research data.


Lee Misook, head of the Tourism Data Strategy Team at the Korea Tourism Organization, stated, "Given the recent work environment, including the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, data-driven decision-making and problem-solving are not optional but essential," adding, "We hope this competition will help foster a culture of data-driven business success within the tourism industry."
