23 Billion Won Invested in "Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project"
Comprehensive Overhaul of Residential Environment
Oro 1-ri in Jangcheon-myeon, Gumi-si, North Gyeongsang Province, has been finally selected for the "2026 Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project" hosted by the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development, paving the way for a dramatic improvement in the local residential environment.
This project will be carried out over four years with a total budget of 2.3 billion won, including both national and local government funds. Comprehensive improvements will be made to aging rural residential infrastructure, including: reinforcement of steep slopes, maintenance of village roads and drainage systems, improvement of traditional toilets, removal of slate roofs, repair of deteriorated fences, and maintenance of vacant houses and unsightly facilities.
Oro 1-ri in Jangcheon-myeon has long suffered from poor living conditions due to a lack of basic infrastructure and a concentration of aging houses. However, with the selection of this national project, the village is expected to see a turning point in improving residents' quality of life and revitalizing the community.
This achievement is the result of joint efforts by National Assembly member Kang Myunggu, Gumi City, North Gyeongsang Province, and local residents.
In particular, Representative Kang has continuously explained and advocated for the necessity of this project to the National Assembly and central government agencies, while Gumi City has thoroughly prepared administratively through project planning and resident surveys.
Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho stated, "This project goes beyond simple facility improvements and is expected to fundamentally transform the structure of this underdeveloped village, greatly contributing to resolving regional imbalances. We will continue to pursue active administration so that residents in vulnerable areas are not left behind and can live in a more pleasant and safe environment."
Kang Myunggu, National Assembly member for Gumi-si-eul of the People Power Party, said, "Oro 1-ri in Jangcheon-myeon is a representative underdeveloped area where residents have endured inconvenience for many years. The selection of this living condition improvement project is the result of cooperation between the central government and local governments, and above all, the earnest voices of the residents played a crucial role."
He added, "I hope this project will lead to tangible improvements in residents' quality of life and lay the foundation for the village's sustainable development. I will continue to attract national projects to the region and do my utmost to address regional imbalances and improve rural living conditions."
Gumi City plans to thoroughly manage the project to restore residents' autonomy and community functions, as well as to ensure that positive effects spread to neighboring areas.
