Park Chandae, the Democratic Party candidate for party leader, emphasized on the 9th that he would "create a new and developing Jeonnam by resolving local issues."
At 10:20 a.m. on this day, Park held a press conference at the briefing room of the Jeonnam Provincial Council under the theme "Honam Asks, Park Chandae Answers in Jeonnam."
During the event, Park stated, "Over the past week, my experience living in Honam has been completed here in Jeonnam, the hometown of Kim Daejung," and added, "I will walk together through the 30 years of local autonomy that President Kim Daejung initiated. I will launch a local election planning team and establish a nomination system in which party members participate."
He further stressed, "To advance Jeonnam, I will revive public healthcare in Jeonnam, which is the final piece in establishing medical schools at all 17 metropolitan governments nationwide." He added, "To foster public healthcare professionals within Jeonnam, I will push for the establishment of an integrated medical school at Mokpo National University and Suncheon National University, aiming to open in 2027, and will seek support at the National Assembly level."
He also raised his voice regarding measures to revitalize the regional economy, such as fostering the petroleum·chemical and new energy industries.
Park said, "Yeosu is the center of South Korea's petrochemical industry," but added, "However, with the current structure, it is impossible to move beyond the era of carbon neutrality. The system and structure must be changed."
He continued, "I will make the existing refining and petrochemical industries smarter, more advanced, and more eco-friendly," and explained, "Together with relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Environment, I will push for the enactment of a special law for Yeosu's petrochemical industry."
He also said, "Jeonnam ranks first nationwide in solar power generation and has abundant wind resources," adding, "Based on the three energy laws, I will promote the creation of an agrivoltaic solar power complex in Haenam, a Mokpo RE100-dedicated national green industrial complex, and a Jindo public-led offshore wind power cluster, making Jeonnam an energy hub city."
Park Chandae, the candidate for party leader, once again expressed his intention to hold those responsible for the December 3 insurrection accountable.
He said, "Yesterday, I proposed a special law on insurrection," and added, "The reason Gwangju in 1980 was able to prevent the December 3 insurrection was because there was a national movement to set history right and legal accountability for the forces behind the coup."
He continued, "Unfortunately, history has repeated itself," and added, "Through this special law on insurrection, I will bring the December 3 insurrection to a complete close. I will also hold an insurrection hearing on Yoon Sukyeol and Kim Keonhee, and together with the people, achieve the complete end of insurrection."
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party will register candidates for the party leader election on the 10th, then hold regional primaries in Chungcheong on the 19th, Yeongnam on the 20th, Honam on the 26th, and the Seoul metropolitan area including Gyeonggi and Incheon on the 27th. On August 2, the party will hold a national convention at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, to elect the next party leader. For the next party leader, four-term lawmaker Jung Chungrae and three-term lawmaker Park Chandae have each announced their candidacy.
