On July 9, Cheongyang-gun in South Chungcheong Province announced that Hyeongsan-ri in Daechi-myeon has been finally selected as the target site for the "2025 Rural Vulnerable Area Living Conditions Improvement Project" organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

This project is a public contest initiative that provides comprehensive support for rural areas with poor basic living conditions in terms of housing, sanitation, and safety. The support includes ▲ housing environment improvement ▲ enhancement of living infrastructure ▲ and capacity building for residents.

According to the county, Hyeongsan-ri is facing poor residential conditions due to the concentration of aging houses, roads inaccessible to fire trucks, abandoned buildings, and outdated security lights, all of which threaten the safety and health of residents.

In particular, the area is experiencing a sharp decline in population, making the improvement of settlement conditions an urgent issue.

Starting in 2026, the county plans to invest approximately 1.5 billion won over four years to carry out extensive environmental improvements.

The main projects include ▲ maintenance of village access roads ▲ installation of security CCTVs and fire prevention facilities ▲ remodeling of temporary shelters ▲ and demolition of vacant and abandoned buildings.

In addition, the county plans to strengthen resident capacity and restore the community through practical education programs such as gardening, home repair, communal meals, and organizing and storage, as well as leadership training and field trips to advanced regions.

Choi Iho, head of the Rural Community Division, stated, "The selection of this project is the result of the residents' long-standing wishes and the county's proactive response," adding, "We will continue to do our best to improve the living environment in ways that residents can truly feel."
