Ahn Cheolsoo, a member of the People Power Party, has proposed that former Minister Kim Moonsoo and former leader Han Donghoon run together in the upcoming party convention.
On July 8, Ahn posted on his Facebook, "The People Power Party is not a grocery store, yet for an entire month after the presidential election, the only news we see is endless speculation. I propose that both of you run together in the party convention."
He continued, "There are endless reports that Kim Moonsoo is running for governor of North Gyeongsang Province, that he is challenging for party leader, that Han Donghoon has made up his mind to run, or that their aides are trying to dissuade them. The fatigue among party members and the public regarding both of your moves is increasing."
Ahn addressed Kim and Han, saying, "It is time to stop the speculative reporting. Both of you should boldly announce your candidacies for the party convention, and let us discuss the innovation of the party together. Let us examine alternatives that can root out the policy failures and the remnants of martial law associated with former President Yoon Sukyeol and his wife, which have spread like toxins through the People Power Party, and restore the trust of party members and the public."
Finally, Ahn expressed his determination to avoid negative campaigning and to compete before the public and party members based on what innovation means to Ahn Cheolsoo, Kim Moonsoo, and Han Donghoon. He said, "People around me keep making all sorts of calculated remarks, such as, 'We will lose next year's local elections,' 'It is only a one-year term anyway,' or 'If we lose this time, it will be hard to make a comeback.' However, public sentiment is not so easy to predict. How can a politician who lives by the people's choice abandon the battlefield and claim to fight elsewhere?"
