A man who went around various locations in Seoul indiscriminately spraying lacquer on cars, elevators, ATMs, and other objects has been apprehended by the police.
On July 7, the police announced via their YouTube channel that they had arrested a man, identified as Mr. A, who had carried out graffiti attacks across Seoul at the end of May.

From May 25, over a period of three days, Mr. A went around parking lots, banks, and building elevators in the Seoul area, repeatedly damaging various objects by spraying them with lacquer. He sprayed lacquer at 22 locations over those three days, resulting in damages amounting to approximately 15 million won. The local police station identified his appearance from CCTV footage and increased patrols.
On the third day of his crimes, the police received a report stating that "the person who sprayed lacquer has entered a jjimjilbang." Officers were immediately dispatched to the jjimjilbang, but it was difficult to identify Mr. A because he had changed into jjimjilbang attire and blended in with other patrons.
However, the police repeatedly reviewed CCTV footage to familiarize themselves with Mr. A's appearance. After tracking him for two days, the officers were able to instantly recognize the suspect even though he was dressed in jjimjilbang clothing.
During police questioning, the man reportedly stated that his motive for the crimes was that "people were trying to harm me."
The police have detained the man on charges of property damage and referred the case to the prosecution. According to Article 366 of the Criminal Act, anyone who damages, conceals, or otherwise impairs the utility of another person's property, documents, or electronic records and similar special media records may be sentenced to up to three years in prison or fined up to 7 million won.
