Relentless Heat Wave... Jangseong County Mobilizes Full Response to Heat Wave

Nighttime Opening of Shelters... Enhanced Inspections and Facility Support
Preparing for Heavy Rain... Expanded Monitoring Activities by Safety Guardians

Jangseong County in South Jeolla Province is focusing its administrative resources on comprehensive natural disaster countermeasures in response to the heat wave that followed the monsoon season. On July 8, the county announced that it is conducting on-site inspections not only to respond to the heat wave but also to prepare for abnormal weather conditions such as sudden torrential downpours.

Jangseong County has established natural disaster countermeasures in a total of 13 areas and activates an emergency response team based on weather forecasts to enter emergency operations. Each department is working closely together on urgent measures, including situation management, emergency restoration, energy recovery, and medical and quarantine services.

When a heat wave advisory is issued, welfare workers and the Elderly Guardians Team check on the well-being of elderly residents and provide them with safety guidelines. In the event of an emergency, they immediately coordinate with medical institutions for a prompt response. The operation of heat relief shelters is also being expanded. During the advisory period, Jangseong County is keeping the shelters open into the evening and reinforcing cooling equipment at traditional markets and senior facilities. A new shelter has been established at Hwangryong Traditional Market, and air conditioners and refrigerators have been replaced at 25 senior centers. The county also plans to install eight additional smart shades.

The county is also preparing for possible localized heavy rains that may occur after the heat wave. Inspections are being carried out at drainage pump stations, landslide-prone areas, and construction sites, with plans to promptly maintain drainage channels, manholes, and stormwater inlets during rainfall.

In each village, the "Village Safety Guardians," organized into 33 groups across 11 towns and townships, are monitoring vulnerable areas and assisting residents with mobility difficulties during evacuations.

After visiting heat relief shelters and other sites on this day, County Governor Kim Hanjong stated, "We will respond meticulously to ensure that not a single resident suffers from the heat wave," and added, "In particular, I ask that elderly residents refrain from going out during the daytime and take sufficient rest."
