Netanyahu of Israel Recommends Trump as Nobel Peace Prize Candidate

Trump: "Only Progressives Win"
Among Four U.S. Presidents Who Won the Nobel Peace Prize,
Three Were Democrats

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on July 7 (local time) that he has nominated U.S. President Donald Trump as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.

According to the UK newspaper The Guardian, Prime Minister Netanyahu delivered a letter recommending President Trump as a Nobel Peace Prize candidate, which he had sent to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, to President Trump during a dinner held at the White House in Washington, D.C. that day.

Prime Minister Netanyahu explained his reason for the nomination by saying, "He is, even at this very moment, continuing to build peace in one country and one region." Netanyahu's move is interpreted as an attempt to win President Trump's favor. Previously, Pakistan also stated that it would nominate President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

President Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize several times both domestically and internationally, but has never won. In the past, he expressed his dissatisfaction by mentioning his mediation efforts in the India-Pakistan and Serbia-Kosovo conflicts, and claimed that the Nobel Committee mainly selects progressives as recipients. In fact, among the four U.S. presidents who have won the Nobel Peace Prize, three were Democrats, with Theodore Roosevelt being the only Republican.

Perhaps conscious of the fact that the Nobel Peace Prize has been concentrated among Democratic presidents, he recently mentioned that the Trump administration mediated a peace treaty between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, adding, "No matter what I do, I will never win the Nobel Peace Prize."

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized that Israel will achieve peace with its Palestinian neighbors who do not seek Israel's destruction, but also stressed, "Security sovereignty will always remain in our hands."

Regarding the "two-state solution," in which Israel and Palestine coexist, he stated, "Palestine should have complete control over itself, but should not have the authority to threaten Israel." He also said that any change in the Iranian government depends on the decision of the Iranian people.
