The Chungnam Provincial Council announced on July 8 that it held a legislative forum at the Nonsan Agricultural Technology Center auditorium on July 7 to build consensus for the development of the strawberry industry and to explore ways to strengthen its competitiveness.

The forum was chaired by Councilor Oh Inhwan (Nonsan 2, Democratic Party of Korea), with Kim Taeil, chief professor at Chungnam Agricultural Meister University, delivering the keynote presentation. Panelists included Lee Taekhyun, secretary-general of the Nonsan Chamber of Agriculture and Fisheries, Kim Jaehan, head of a strawberry farm, Kang Daeseok, president of the Nonsan Strawberry Research Association, and Lee Sangyeol, team leader of the Chungnam Expo Preparation Task Force.

Councilor Oh stressed, "The strawberry industry, standing at a crossroads of change, is facing structural challenges such as increasing uncertainty in cultivation environments due to climate change, labor shortages, and rising material costs." He emphasized that, "To overcome these crises and achieve sustainable growth, the structure of the strawberry industry must be transformed with a future-oriented approach."

In his presentation, Professor Kim Taeil explained sustainable growth strategies for the Chungnam strawberry industry and outlined the strengths and weaknesses of Chungnam strawberries. He proposed seven areas for improvement: enhancing brand value through quality advancement; improving productivity and strengthening cultivation safety; expanding the supply of tissue-cultured seedlings; fostering export complexes; organizing and scaling up production facilities; establishing measures to secure labor; and developing strawberry-related tourism products.

Team leader Lee Sangyeol stated, "We are working to have the 2027 Nonsan World Strawberry Industry Expo approved as an international event." He emphasized, "We hope to showcase the competitiveness of the Nonsan strawberry industry to the world through the expo and are preparing to present the future direction for the entire strawberry industry. We ask for your active cooperation and interest."
