G2Power Adds AI-Based Control Technology
Entering the New Thermal Management Market... Collaboration on Data Centers as Well
S-Oil has partnered with smart grid specialist G2Power to enhance the fire safety and operational efficiency of energy storage systems (ESS). The two companies have completed the development of a new ESS that combines low-viscosity immersion cooling oil with AI control technology, and have officially begun collaboration for commercialization within the year.
On July 8, S-Oil announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with G2Power at its headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul, for the "development and business cooperation of immersion cooling-type ESS." The two companies have developed a solution that maximizes battery heat suppression and energy efficiency by applying S-Oil's cooling oil, "e-Cooling Solution," to G2Power's ESS. With this agreement, they plan to begin full-scale commercialization and joint business development of the immersion cooling-type ESS.
The newly introduced immersion-type ESS is designed to prevent overheating by directly submerging batteries in cooling oil. Compared to conventional air-cooled systems, this structure can improve charging and discharging efficiency by about 10% and reduce operating energy by up to 30%. In particular, it can fundamentally eliminate fire risks through uniform heat distribution and module-specific temperature control, attracting attention as a solution to ESS safety issues.
G2Power, which led the development, is a smart grid specialist founded in 2010. The company manufactures power equipment such as switchboards, solar inverters, and ESS, and provides AI-based integrated control solutions. Recently, through a government project by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, G2Power also completed the development of control algorithms for immersion-type ESS.
The two companies plan to expand their cooperation beyond ESS commercialization to include cooling systems for data centers, where high-heat generating equipment is concentrated.
An S-Oil representative said, "The thermal management technology market is growing rapidly with the expansion of high-performance power equipment," and added, "We will continue to develop technology and invest to become a leading company in the immersion cooling sector."
