Amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Military Personnel Disaster Compensation Act
to Take Effect from July 8
From now on, the families of soldiers who are posthumously promoted after being killed in action or dying in the line of duty for the nation will receive survivor benefits that include the increased salary corresponding to the posthumous promotion.
The Ministry of National Defense announced that, according to the revised Enforcement Decree of the Military Personnel Disaster Compensation Act, which comes into effect on July 8, families of soldiers who are killed in action or die in the line of duty and are posthumously promoted will receive survivor pensions, military death condolence payments, and other pensions and compensations based on the rank achieved through the posthumous promotion.
Until now, special promotions by posthumous conferment were honorary measures to recognize a soldier's achievements during service, and existing survivor benefits were paid according to the rank held before the promotion.
The Ministry of National Defense stated, "This amendment is a follow-up measure to the revision of the Military Personnel Disaster Compensation Act in January," and added, "It is a step that substantially strengthens national compensation for soldiers and their families who have sacrificed for the nation and its people."
