A deadly heatwave with a perceived temperature approaching 33 degrees Celsius has prompted daily advisories in recent days. In particular, workers at construction sites are exposed to this intense heat all day long, making sufficient rest and hydration essential.

On July 7, Kim Hagyun, Vice Mayor of Sejong City, inspected large construction sites, cooling shelters, and newly installed shade structures, urging thorough measures to respond to the heatwave. This comes as a series of heatwave advisories have been issued, with the first heatwave advisory declared on June 28, followed by an upgrade to a heatwave warning on July 2.

Vice Mayor Kim visited the public facility complex construction site in Geumam-ri, Janggun-myeon, where he handed out ice water to workers and checked on the workers' rest areas. He requested that from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., when the heat is most severe, work should be suspended or workers should be provided with ample water and rest to prevent heat-related illnesses.

He also emphasized that when working in heatwave conditions, every effort should be made to ensure that workers receive at least 20 minutes of rest every two hours. He visited the Yeongi 1-ri Senior Center in Yeongi-myeon, which is designated as a cooling shelter, to check that air conditioning was functioning properly and to promote heatwave safety guidelines to the elderly residents.

Previously, the city has been checking on the well-being of more than 4,000 elderly residents in the area through care managers and other personnel as part of its heatwave response.

Vice Mayor Kim Hagyun stated, "From this month through October, there is a high risk of heat-related illnesses," adding, "We will make every effort to protect citizens, expand heatwave prevention facilities, and prevent heat-related illnesses."
