President Lee: "A Broadcasting Law That Gains Public Support Is Needed Regardless of Who Is in Power"

On July 7, during a briefing at the Yongsan presidential office, spokesperson Kang was asked about the administration's position on the three broadcasting-related laws?the Broadcasting Act, the Foundation for Broadcast Culture Act, and the Korea Educational Broadcasting System Act?which are set to be reviewed by the National Assembly's standing committee. Kang conveyed, "(President Lee said) that a broadcasting law capable of gaining broad public consensus and support is necessary, regardless of the structure of power or which party is in government."

Kang further added, "Although various bills, including those related to governance, are under consideration, the President has not expressed opinions on any specific individual bill." She clarified that President Lee was expressing a general view on broadcasting-related legislation as a whole, and was not stating a particular position on the broadcasting laws currently pending in the standing committee.

Currently, the three broadcasting laws, which focus on expanding the boards of public broadcasters, passed the bill review subcommittee of the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee on July 2, led by the Democratic Party of Korea.
