Kim Byungwook, former member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who has been appointed as the Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs in the Lee Jaemyung administration, stated on July 6, "I will work with the determination that the Lee Jaemyung administration must succeed."
On this day, Kim wrote on his social media (SNS), "I have been appointed as the Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs," adding, "I have now been given the responsibility to care for the lives of the people and to tackle the challenges of our era at the forefront of state affairs."
He continued, "The Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs is a position that coordinates communication between the party, the government, and the presidential office to ensure that the voices of the people are accurately reflected in state affairs," and added, "I will faithfully carry out my duties to ensure that the administration achieves a balance between stability and reform, and furthermore, that the spirit of cooperative governance is realized."
Kim also said, "Based on the experience I have accumulated in legislative and policy fields, I will focus on finding practical solutions for the people," and added, "Above all, I hope to contribute, even in a small way, to proving that politics is a useful means to solve the issues that affect people's livelihoods."
He went on to say, "In particular, I always keep in my heart the experiences I had in Bundang, Seongnam, where I first learned the meaning and responsibility of politics," and added, "Although I will be devoting myself to state affairs for the time being, the time I spent in Seongnam and the warm encouragement from its citizens continue to be a great source of strength for me."
Kim is a member of the "Group of Seven," the original pro-Lee Jaemyung faction within the Democratic Party, and ran for the Bundang-eul district in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province in last year's general election, but was defeated by Kim Eunhye of the People Power Party. Nevertheless, he has continued to support President Lee Jaemyung from outside the administration.
