Songpa District Breaks Ground on Long-Awaited Pungnap 2-dong and Machon 1-dong Complex Office Buildings

Accelerating the Construction of New Office Buildings to Replace Aging Facilities

On July 6, Songpa District in Seoul announced that it has broken ground on the construction of new complex office buildings in Pungnap 2-dong and Machon 1-dong. The district held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Pungnap 2-dong Complex Office Building on June 30, and for the Machon 1-dong Complex Office Building on July 4. Full-scale construction has now begun, with the aim of completing both buildings by April 2027.

The existing Pungnap 2-dong office building, built in 1987, has long caused inconvenience to residents due to its limited space and outdated facilities. Although the new construction project began in 2019, the discovery of buried cultural assets during construction led to three years of archaeological excavation and review, creating significant challenges for the project. Following a decision by the National Heritage Administration to preserve the site, the district undertook a redesign to minimize the impact on the buried cultural assets, and completed the new construction plan in March of this year.

The new Pungnap 2-dong Complex Office Building will be a multi-functional community space, with a total floor area of 2,659 square meters across one basement level and five above-ground floors. It will house a community center, police substation, daycare center, and other facilities.

The Machon 1-dong office building, completed in 1990, has become outdated and was insufficient to meet the growing administrative needs of the area. Residents have continuously requested the expansion of public facilities, especially amid the redevelopment of the Geoyeo and Machon areas.

The new Machon 1-dong Complex Office Building will also have one basement level and five above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 3,637 square meters. It will include shared spaces such as a community center and resident center, as well as public facilities desired by local residents like a childcare center and a kids' cafe. The new building is expected to become a central hub for administration, education, welfare, and culture in the district.

In addition, the Jangji-dong office building is nearing completion, and the Songpa 2-dong office building is currently undergoing detailed design work.

Seo Kangseok, Mayor of Songpa District, stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the long-awaited complex office buildings for residents are completed as soon as possible," adding, "By creating a pleasant and convenient environment at our district offices, we aim not only to improve administrative services for residents but also to make Songpa an even better place to live?a premier residential city that residents can truly appreciate."
