The Gyeongbuk Gumi University Cycling Team demonstrated its overwhelming skill on the national stage by sweeping a total of nine medals, including four golds, at the 2025 KBS Yangyang National Cycling Championships.

Hosted by the Korea Cycling Federation, the event was held from June 21 to 27 at the Yangyang Velodrome in Gangwon Province. Numerous athletes representing university and professional teams from across the country competed in the championships.
Gumi University secured four gold medals, four silver medals, and one bronze medal at this event, ranking among the top teams in the overall medal standings.
Key athletes such as Kim Hyunwoo (1 Lap), Hwang Jungwoo (Scratch), Choi Jungmyung (Individual Time Trial), and Hong Youngtaek (Individual Pursuit) delivered outstanding performances in their respective events, showcasing the strength of the team. The most notable achievement was Hong Youngtaek's second-place finish in the 42km Individual Time Trial in the open division.
The open division is a highly challenging category where university and professional athletes compete together. Hong secured the runner-up position after an intense contest with top professional cyclists. As a result, he has emerged as a strong candidate for the national team selection for the 2026 Asian Games.
Kim Seung, head of the Department of Sports Health Management, stated, "Every athlete has achieved these results through their hard work and dedication," adding, "I am especially proud that these efforts have borne fruit under the systematic guidance of Coach Kim Gilhyun. We will continue to actively support the team so that it can remain among the nation's best."
Meanwhile, Gumi University operates specialized sports teams in four disciplines?cycling, soccer, baseball, and volleyball?to foster elite athletes and sports leaders. The university continues to strengthen its reputation as a prestigious sports institution by producing national-level talent across various sports.
