A Tornado That Brought Them Together Becomes the Backdrop for Their Engagement
In the United States, a man proposing to a woman in front of a tornado is drawing significant attention.
A photo of a couple proposing in front of a massive tornado is gaining attention. Photo captured from X (formerly Twitter).
According to USA Today and People magazine on the 4th (local time), Bryce Selten (24) recently proposed to Paige Verdomas (32) against the backdrop of a tornado in South Dakota. Their friend, Brandon Kopik, captured the proposal and posted it on social media, where the post has garnered nearly 20 million views, attracting widespread interest.
Previously, Selten and Verdomas met through an online weather community. Both were active in a 'storm chasing' community, which involves pursuing and documenting storms. Their online friendship, built on this shared interest, led to a real-life meeting in Iowa last June, when they met to chase and film a tornado, and their relationship developed into a romantic one.
After their first meeting, both felt an immediate connection and quickly became close. Verdomas explained, "We started making YouTube videos together. We have a similar style when it comes to chasing tornadoes, and we both enjoy interacting with others on YouTube." Notably, Selten reportedly wanted to marry Verdomas from the very first day they met. Because of this, he wanted to propose to her in front of a tornado, which had brought them together, and he always carried the ring with him, waiting for the right moment.
In this context, they waited 18 weeks to see a tornado. Late last month, the two headed to South Dakota, where a tornado had been forecast. When they witnessed the formation of a wall cloud?a precursor to a tornado?and saw a funnel cloud descending, Selten suggested they take a photo. As Verdomas stepped out of the truck and stood on the ground, Selten got down on one knee and presented the ring, proposing to her. This created a proposal moment the couple will remember for a lifetime. Verdomas, though surprised, accepted the proposal. Selten said, "I was as nervous as I could be, but I pulled it off perfectly," expressing his satisfaction. Through social media, Verdomas shared, "I received a proposal I could never have imagined," and added, "I'm looking forward to our future together."
