The labor union of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has approved a strike through a vote by its members after failing to make progress in this year's wage negotiations.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Union Approves Strike with 64% in Favor Yonhap News

The union announced that in the strike vote held from July 2 to July 4, 66.9% of all union members (7,539 people) participated, and 64.0% of the total membership (4,828 people) voted in favor.

Since a majority of all union members voted in favor of the strike, the union will secure the legal right to strike if the Central Labor Relations Commission determines that the positions of labor and management are too far apart and decides to suspend mediation. The commission is expected to decide whether to suspend mediation on July 7.

The union is demanding a monthly base salary increase of 141,300 won (excluding step increases), an increase in seniority allowances, and an extension of the retirement age (up to 65 years old). The labor and management have held more than 10 rounds of negotiations, but no progress has been made.
