New Engine, Transmission, and Suspension Combination
On July 4, BMW Korea announced the launch of the compact "New 1 Series" and "New 2 Series Gran Coupe," both equipped with powerful driving performance and enhanced convenience features.
The brand's signature dynamic proportions have been reinterpreted with a sportier and more refined sensibility. The front end, now designed to be significantly lower and wider than before, creates the impression of hugging the road, while the slimmer kidney grille and light design further maximize the sporty atmosphere. The kidney grille features vertical and diagonal bars within the frame, adding a sense of depth and dimension.
The New 1 Series stands out for its compact proportions, characteristic of a hatchback optimized for urban driving, while the New 2 Series Gran Coupe presents a sophisticated atmosphere with its long and elegant silhouette unique to a four-door coupe.
The BMW Curved Display, composed of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch control display, is featured, along with a control system that minimizes physical buttons and a toggle-style gear selector.
All models come standard with "Veganza," a vegan material, and new sport seats. For trims at the M Sport Package level and above, the dashboard is enhanced with BMW M's signature tri-color stitching. The high-performance models, New M135 xDrive and New M235 xDrive, are equipped with an M-exclusive leather steering wheel featuring a red band at the top.
Additionally, all models are equipped as standard with BMW's latest modular engine and a 7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission, renowned for its rapid shifting and direct feel. The "New 120" and "New 220" feature BMW TwinPower Turbo gasoline engines with a maximum output of 204 horsepower, an increase of 12 horsepower over the previous generation. They deliver a maximum torque of 30.6kg·m, and accelerate from a standstill to 100km/h in 7.2 seconds for the New 120 and 7.3 seconds for the New 220.
The newly introduced "New 228 xDrive" for the Korean market is powered by a BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine, delivering a maximum output of 245 horsepower and a maximum torque of 40.8kg·m, accelerating from zero to 100km/h in 6 seconds.
The high-performance models, "New M135 xDrive" and "M235 xDrive," are equipped with BMW M TwinPower Turbo gasoline engines that deliver a maximum output of 317 horsepower?an increase of 11 horsepower over previous models?and a maximum torque of 40.8kg·m, accelerating from zero to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
Furthermore, the "New 228 xDrive," "New M135 xDrive," and "New M235 xDrive" models all come standard with Adaptive M Suspension, M Sport brake system, and the intelligent all-wheel-drive system BMW xDrive, ensuring optimal and stable driving performance in a variety of driving conditions.
In particular, a Korean-style navigation system based on Tmap is provided as standard. The online streaming map updates all map information, including the latest traffic conditions, in real time to provide optimal route guidance, and it is fully integrated with the head-up display, allowing drivers to access information more conveniently.
The New 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe are priced by trim as follows: "New 120" ranges from 48.4 million to 52.8 million won, "New 220" from 49.9 million to 53.5 million won, "New 228 xDrive" at 57 million won, "New M135 xDrive" at 61.8 million won, and "M235 xDrive" at 62.4 million won.
