"Listening and Jobs" at the Forefront
Byungkyu Park, Mayor of Gwangsan District, Gwangju, stated that he will "create a better livelihood and future" based on the achievements of the third year of the 8th popularly elected administration. At a press conference held the previous day, Mayor Park said, "I have worked to serve residents as the true owners and to ensure their will becomes policy," adding, "In the remaining year, I will accelerate our efforts."
He highlighted tangible achievements based on communication-oriented governance, such as the 'On-site Listening Mayor's Office' and 'Direct Text Service,' including the eradication of illegal banners, improvements to the household waste collection system, and the creation of barefoot walking trails. He also stated that the establishment of future development plans for the 21 neighborhoods was "the result of resident participation and the reflection of each community's unique characteristics."
Through the operation of a job advisory group and research projects, he outlined plans for a sustainable job special zone and said that a pilot project is being prepared based on 1,436 citizen inquiries. He assessed that initiatives such as Dangeun Gwangsan, 1313 Neighbor Care, and the Lived-in Home Project "have become new models for public administration."
Regarding the response to the Kumho Tire fire, he said, "Prioritizing relief for affected residents will be our top task," emphasizing that "the driving force behind all key policies is democracy." He added, "Listening to the voices of the sovereign people must be at the heart of district governance."
