Offline Store to Operate at The Hyundai Seoul Starting July 8
Introducing Private Brand "Jonetz" Products
Collaboration with Convenience Store GS25
Official Store Launch Under Consideration Depending on Performance
Don Quijote, Japan's largest variety store and a popular "must-visit" destination for Korean travelers, will open its first-ever pop-up store in Korea.
According to the retail industry on July 3, Don Quijote plans to operate a pop-up store from July 8 to August 1 on the first basement floor of The Hyundai Seoul in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. This pop-up store is being launched in collaboration with GS25, a convenience store chain with which Don Quijote has maintained a partnership. The pop-up will offer Don Quijote's private brand (PB) "Jonetz" products, as well as collaborative items developed with GS25. Popular local products such as konjac jelly, furikake, and soy sauce will also be available. Collaborative products with GS25, including honey jelly monaka and chewy cookies, will be sold as well.
Previously, GS Retail, the operator of GS25, entered into a partnership with Pan Pacific International Holdings (PPIH), the operator of Don Quijote, in May. Since then, GS25's PB brand "YOUUS" has been sold at over 400 Don Quijote stores in Japan. At the time, both companies announced plans to continuously expand their partnership through various forms of joint projects. This pop-up store is seen as an extension of that collaboration.
It is reported that the products showcased at the pop-up will gradually become available at GS25 convenience stores after the event concludes. Don Quijote is expected to use this pop-up as a testbed for entering the Korean market. Depending on the results, the company will decide whether to expand to official stores in the future. With the pop-up store schedule already revealed on social media and other platforms, consumers are showing significant interest.
Meanwhile, Don Quijote, which was established in Japan in 1980, currently operates around 650 stores in Japan as of the end of last month. The company also runs about 110 stores in major overseas cities, including the United States, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Malaysia.
