Nowon Senior Employment Support Center Establishes Itself as a Tailored Job Hub for Seniors

One-Stop Support from Job Counseling to Employment Placement

Nowon-gu in Seoul is actively supporting tailored employment assistance and job creation for seniors aged 60 and above through the 'Nowon Senior Employment Support Center.'

According to Statistics Korea, last year the proportion of people aged 65 and older in South Korea surpassed 20% of the total population, marking the country's entry into a super-aged society. As a result, providing stable and sustainable jobs for the elderly has become an urgent issue.

Nowon Senior Employment Support Center Establishes Itself as a Tailored Job Hub for Seniors Job Practical Training - Life Support Worker Training. Provided by Nowon-gu.

In 2019, Nowon-gu became the first district in the country to open a self-operated 'Nowon Senior Employment Support Center.' Located on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Junggye Onmaeul Center near Sanggye Station, the center offers both telephone and in-person consultations.

The center provides comprehensive employment support services for job-seeking seniors aged 60 and above, including employment counseling, job training, job placement, and employer outreach. In particular, it enhances seniors' employability through practical training and 'corporate-customized training' and 'job practical training' programs that reflect actual corporate demand.

The center offers basic reemployment education such as resume writing, interview skills, and smart device usage, as well as customized courses including general security guard training, mechanical parking lot manager training, and advance directive counselor training. All training programs are provided free of charge, and after completion, the center supports direct job placement to ensure that seniors can immediately enter the workforce.

Additionally, the center addresses employment blind spots by providing individualized intensive training such as 'small group customized training,' as well as job information sessions and on-site interviews that directly connect employers with job seekers.

One individual who successfully found reemployment through the center said, "After living in Germany for 13 years and returning to Korea, I was impressed by how much more systematic and well-organized the center's employment support services are compared to those in Germany. I am grateful for the active job discovery and information provided." Another user, who found a job as a certified advance directive counselor, stated, "The practical training and counselor internship programs were a great help in securing employment."

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, "In this era of aging, supporting social participation and employment for the middle-aged and elderly is not an option but a necessity," adding, "We will continue to actively support each and every senior in finding the job they desire and enjoying a vibrant later life."
