Prices Rise Again... Jeonnam Up 2.2%, Gwangju Up 1.9%

Cost of Living Index Rises by 2.4% in Jeonnam and 2.0% in Gwangju
Agricultural, Livestock, Fishery Products and Industrial Goods Drive Up Prices

Consumer prices, which had been stagnant for a while, have started to rise again. In June, prices in the Jeonnam region increased by 2.2% compared to the same month last year, returning to the 2% range for the first time in two months. In Gwangju, prices rose by 1.9%, a slight increase from the previous month.

According to the "June Consumer Price Trends in Gwangju and Jeonnam" released by the Honam Regional Statistics Office on July 2, the cost of living index, which reflects perceived inflation, rose by 2.4% in Jeonnam and 2.0% in Gwangju.


Looking at prices by category in Jeonnam, prices for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products increased by 2.5%. Mackerel rose by 17.1%, hairtail by 21.1%, and pork by 5.8%. On the other hand, apples fell by 17.8%, pears by 24.7%, and oriental melons by 14.9%. Industrial products increased by 1.5%. Bread rose by 6.1%, ham and bacon by 13.1%, and coffee by 11.6%. In contrast, gasoline fell by 2.3%, imported passenger cars by 5.6%, and kerosene by 3.9%. Electricity, gas, and water rose by 1.9%, and services increased by 2.7%, respectively.


In the Gwangju region, prices for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products increased by 0.6% compared to the same month last year. Mackerel rose by 26.1%, eggs by 18.8%, and garlic by 24.3%. However, apples fell by 18.1%, pears by 39.6%, and persimmons by 32.1%. Industrial products increased by 1.7%, with coffee rising by 16.7%, bread by 5.6%, and automotive LPG by 11.3%. Imported passenger cars fell by 5.6% and gasoline by 1.8%.


Electricity, gas, and water in Gwangju rose by 3.1%. By item, city gas increased by 6.5% and water rates by 3.8%. Personal services rose by 3.0%, with insurance service fees (16.3%) and sliced raw fish (11.2%) being the main items contributing to the increase. Meanwhile, the fresh food index in Gwangju fell by 1.7% compared to the same month last year.
