Character, Emotional, Teacher Rights, and Alternative Education
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education began operating its new Division of Character and Life Education on July 1. The initiative aims to strengthen practical, action-oriented life education to support students' warm character development and healthy growth.
The newly established Division of Character and Life Education consists of 35 members across four teams: the Character and Life Education Team, the Mind and Social-Emotional Team, the Teacher Rights Protection and Field Support Team, and the Alternative Education Team. Each team is responsible for field-oriented tasks such as character education, emotional support, teacher rights protection, and alternative education policies.
The Character and Life Education Team is in charge of character education, school violence prevention, and prevention and treatment of gambling issues. The Mind and Social-Emotional Team oversees gender awareness improvement, student mental health, and suicide prevention. The Teacher Rights Protection and Field Support Team provides psychological and emotional support for teachers and protects educational activities. The Alternative Education Team is responsible for preventing school dropouts and operating specialized schools for alternative education.
Superintendent Lee Jungseon stated, "With the launch of the Division of Character and Life Education, we will work to systematize character education and psychological and emotional counseling support, so that Gwangju students can develop warm character and grow up properly."
